The Bay Area, Yosemite, the High Sierras, Lake Tahoe, Carmel-Monterey and the wine-producing areas of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys are within easy driving distances, usually a one or two hours' drive. The State Capital, Sacramento is located 55 miles to the north. The "River City" offers many other educational, historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities. San Francisco, just 80 miles to the west, offers museums, major league teams, theater, art, and excellent restaurants. Oakland and Berkeley are also near by offering a variety of cultural activities. Lake Tahoe, a two hour drive, is popular for year round water sports, skiing and gaming. Yosemite National Park is also approximately a three hour drive where one can enjoy a wide variety of summer and winter sports.
